Runabouts are larger more sophisticated shuttles. They can carry more people and are typically used for short range mission. Runabouts tend to carry slightly heavier armament then shuttles, and some runabouts, such as the Warhammer class, are geared specifically toward combat instead of science.

Danube Class

The Type 5A Runabout proved reasonably successful in service, though the small cabin size limited its operations somewhat. Starfleet has gradually enlarged and improved the Runabout concept over the next twenty years or so, culminating in the Danube class Runabout first fielded in 2367. This is a much larger, more capable craft than previous designs. It features a large front cabin for the pilot and co-pilot / navigator plus up to three mission specialists. A two person transporter is at the rear of the cabin, with a small cargo area and engineering spaces behind this. A short passageway to one side connects the front cabin to the cargo bay and rear area. This incorporates six bunks, each of which can be closed off behind a privacy screen. The rear cabin is thirty feet long and fifteen feet wide; it can be fitted out according to the mission type with scientific instruments, extra weapons, a first aid station, evacuation support system, or other such equipment. Below the main spaces are the warp core and power transfer conduits, impulse drive system and fuel tanks. The nacelle supports contain two small escape pods, a group of emergency communications beacons and various other equipment.

Delta Flyer Class

Designed by the crew of the starship Voyager, the Delta Flyer class runabout is one of the fastest in the Federation fleet. She is designed to be a 24th century 'hot rod' with superior manoeuvrability and speed. She also carries the newest unimatrix shield system and is covered in ablative hull armor. Her original armament included photonic missiles, a system that is becoming more and more useful while in the dangerous and often unpredictable Gamma Quadrant.

The Warhammer class was designed to work as a larger companion to Federation Fighters as well as a smaller escort for the Beowulf Interceptor. Well armed, maneuverable, fast. Designed to attack larger ships en-mass, and hit them from all angles. The ship can also be used to transport VIPs in possibly dangerous areas.

The Blackhawk Class Runabout is unique to Bravo Fleet and is designed for the Marines. The craft is an off-shoot of the Danube class runabout, but designed for marine use. She has type-X phasers emitters and 2 micro-quantom torpedo launchers The Runabout also as double-layered shielding and ablative armor added to her hull. She has a top speed of warp 8.4. She is manned by a crew of 2 and has one deck. She can carry up to 25 Marines with full Combat gear.
